Winter in Croatia
There is something magical about Croatia at any time of the year, but the purity of winter adds an extra charm to everything. The weather here on the coast is Mediterranean (average daily temperature of 14 degrees, with about 5 hours of sunshine). It can rain sometimes, but when the sun comes out, it is immediately warm..
Discover snowy mountain landscapes, icy waterfalls and quiet plains. During excursions to nearby towns, the twinkling lights, seasonal delicacies and romantic town squares with the scent of ancient customs make for unforgettable experiences.
Our tip, a trip to Split
Croatia’s coast is a highlight on the Mediterranean Sea even in winter, especially the city of Split (only 36 km away) with its charming old town. Wandering through the winding streets, past historic buildings, you will discover true treasures.
During this time, the city is a little quieter, without large crowds of visitors, but also a little less expensive than in the season. If you want to experience the magic of the Mediterranean streets, enjoy the slow rhythm of life, the warm and sunny days, Split is definitely worth a trip.
Four weeks before Christmas, the traditional preparation time for Christmas begins. In Split, the “Advent in Split” is held during this period. It begins on the first Sunday of Advent (end of November) and lasts until the beginning of January. The most visited localities Riva, Pjaca and Prokurative are richly decorated and enhance the winter fairy-tale atmosphere. On the waterfront, the so-called Riva, you will find free on the street organized concerts, DJ performances and children’s programs.
The highlight is the New Year’s concert at the Riva, where you can expect the New Year with excellent Croatian musicians. In a relaxed and cheerful mood, open-hearted Croatians and welcome guests celebrate New Year’s Eve into the New Year. There is singing, laughing and dancing, right by the sea.
For culture lovers who find themselves in Split at the end of January, we recommend the “Night of Museums“, a unique cultural event on a national level, where admission to all museums is free.
